In his production, Tiago Mestre occasionally relies on dialogues that echo and continue traditional genres of Western painting, as is the case with his landscapes. In a usual compositional scheme in which he offers a horizon in his paintings, Mestre in My life flashed before my eyes (2024) works with a human figure, something not so frequent in his production. A face at the edge of the painting offers a transmutation of this landscape. With its eyes closed and smoke billowing from its mouth, this face suggests a semantic structure to the artist's undulating brushstrokes.
