Ao trabalhar suas figuras e formas com traços econômicos em novos suportes e técnicas para além da pintura – onde predominam os desenhos, os objetos e os bordados – Leonilson cria seu vocabulário particular no qual a delicadeza e as traduções subjetivas dão as cartas.

Em Kms.; Horas (1991), o artista borda delicadamente sobre linho as duas medidas que intitulam o trabalho. Leonilson, que nutria grande interesse por mapas e referências cartográficas, criou um rico inventário de modos de representação e exploração das geografias. Neste trabalho específico, o artista trabalha com estas específicas escalas espaciais e temporais como se fossem pontos cardeais. São, no limite, parte fundamental de sua cartilha cartográfica por onde, ao longo de sua obra, cria seus caminhos, paisagens, corpos e territórios.

By working his figures and shapes with economical strokes in new media and techniques other than painting - where drawings, objects and embroidery predominate - Leonilson creates his own particular vocabulary in which delicacy and subjective translations lead the way.

In Kms.; Horas (1991), the artist delicately embroiders the two measures that give the work its title on linen. Leonilson, who had a great interest in maps and cartographic references, created a rich inventory of ways of representing and exploring geographies. In this particular work, the artist works with these specific spatial and temporal scales as if they were cardinal points. They are, in fact, a fundamental part of his cartographic primer through which, throughout his work, he creates his paths, landscapes, bodies and territories.
