For Art Basel 2023, Gomide&Co presents a selection that takes as its starting point the work "Cobra grande" (1943), by Maria Martins (1894-1973). The sculpture's title refers to one of the most famous legends of the Amazonia, according to which an immense snake grows excessively and starts to inhabit the deepest part of the rivers of the forest. It is precisely around this seminal sculpture by Martins, whose dialogue takes place with the mythical universe of the Amazonia, that appear in the works of artists such as Antônio Bandeira, Agnaldo Manuel dos Santos, Chico da Silva, Frans Krajcberg, Hélio Melo, Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Maria Lira Marques, Madalena Santos Reinbolt and Victor Brecheret.
