[EN]

In the 1950s, with the full activity of the new modern art museums in Brazil and the inauguration of the Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil became a hub for the production and artistic exchange of Japanese-diasporic artists. During this period, Seibi-Kai - a group made up of artists such as Manabu Mabe, Massao Okinaka, Tomoo Handa, among others - returned to its activities and some of its artists, who had lived in the inland areas of the state making figurative paintings, now moved towards informal abstractionism in urban centers. Untitled, from 1950, is one of the works in which Manabu Mabe works with a technique not so common in his career, which is printing on fabric.
