Alex Cerveny's approach to painting does not end in the order of the symbolic, but in the pure interlocution between the different references that its surfaces evoke. Feeding on the history of art, religions and their inevitable blasphemies, literature, music, and the contemporary culture of newspapers and soap operas, Cerveny has elaborated his own affective vocabulary that consolidates his memories and subjectivities through the fragmented composition of a liquid time. His series of 18 x 24 cm paintings in acrylic and oil are thought of as ex-votos, objects imbued with spiritual value, reappropriated by modernity through their exhibition value. As in the painting, they consolidate a spiritualized narrative present in the Brazilian popular imaginary.

In Terceira Margem [Third Bank] (2022), Cerveny incorporates the Tupi-Guarani language through its every day, oral dimension, which inscribes historicity through speech. The use of words inscribes the image without the visual referential, establishing a feeling of absence and mystery: pyhare, for example, means "night". The title is inspired by the short story The Third Bank of the River (1962) by Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967). In the narrative, a man abandons his family and society and decides to live in a canoe on an immense river. As in the story, an appeal to fantasy is performed, establishing in the Third Bank a mysterious and chimerical ambiance.
