A contester of sexist practices in the relationships that surrounded her, Teresinha Soares never stopped fighting against the high rates of feminicide that have always plagued our country. As much as she has aesthetically evidenced herself in later works, as in Acontecências (1966-67), Teresinha never stopped bringing the bodies in her works, in a harmonic way as much as in protest.
Composed in curvilinear traces in china ink and gouache, the Torso series is perhaps one of the high points of the artist's figuration: her lines are cold and precise. There is something of control, but also of tenderness in the way the naked bodies relate to each other on paper. We can also read it as part of a teresian geography, whose body itself she considers "(...) like a river. It springs from the high lands of Araxás (her homeland), meanders through the mountains of Minas and flows towards the sea".
