[EN]

In the Braille series, started in the late 1990s, León Ferrari works with reproductions of religious, erotic, and images from the Art History, on which he writes Braille texts taken from the Bible. Opposing punitive Christian morality to sexual pleasure, the artist exposes the nude female body and the freedom of choice to love, which is not limited to the rigid norm imposed by religion. Over these images, Ferrari writes fragments of religious texts and poems in the dotted relief of the Braille writing to activate the works by calling the fingertips to traverse the more erotically charged section of the works.

With the Braille text on erotic images, Ferrari explicitly proposes the viewer's physical contact with the prints, placing them before an unlikely invitation: to touch a work of art and caress images of high sexual voltage. Through the juxtaposition of text and image, León Ferrari displaces the canonical meanings of the images, establishing new meanings.

[PT]
