The almost fifty years that Nilda Neves has lived in the interior of Bahia have left her an imaginary universe based on the richness of the vegetation and fauna of the backlands of Bahia. From the emotion of listening to her ancestors, images are born and transposed directly onto the canvas, without any previous drawing. The artist thus establishes a difference between "views" and "apparitions" when explaining the sources that animate her forms. Twisted lines, pushing the boundaries of a possible tropical surrealismmix illustrious facts with popular prophecies and affective memories. In Rupestres (2015), Neves paints with delicate strokes a visual repertoire that reminds us of the paintings of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures made in the archaeological sites of the Chapada Diamantina territory, region of Bahia which is full of geological folds and large rock formations.
