Julia Isídrez honors a centuries-old tradition of ceramic art whose roots go back to the pre-Columbian period in her native country. Her work derives from the ceramics apprenticeship she had with her mother, the artist Juana Marta Rodas (1925-2013). Her works, whimsical objects irrigated by imagination and a creative impulse, have become one of the most original testimonies of contemporary art in Paraguay, in which they also bring out the non-human in the geography of the Paraguayan chaco.

In her ceramics, Isídrez focuses on a pattern of zoomorphic figures from her domestic environment. The techniques of engobe and fumigation with green mango leaves are combined and alternated, with a refined polishing of the surfaces caressed at length by the artist's hands. The animals of her surroundings emerge from spherical forms, in small, haunting pieces, undergoing changes in the form in which they present themselves to us: dragons, frogs, two-, three-, or seven- headed beasts, and even hundred-footed ones, varying between small and large-scale pieces.
