Ivan Serpa's practices were especially established in the fields of drawing, painting and engraving. In the 1940s, his first canvases were still figurative and unique, insofar as there was a distance from both academic art and the nationalist modernism of the time. The end of this decade saw Serpa's interest in abstractionism grow, first by purifying figurative themes. Gradually, his canvases gained autonomy in relation to the perceived world, which led the artist to join Concretism at the beginning of the 1950s.

At this point, his work followed constructive principles to the letter. His forms are geometric and objective, and in 1956, the year the Grupo Frente disbanded, Ivan Serpa painted the work Untitled. His choice of colors alludes to the drawings of structures that Paul Klee developed when he taught at the Bauhaus (1921-1931). Like some of his gouaches from the same decade, Serpa continues with his constructive care, in a geometric structure softly colored in a grid of soft tones in beige and blue.
